I know, I am way behind in keeping this poor blog up to date. I think I forgot just how much work a baby can be! Addy is just about ready to start crawling – eck! She is 9 months old and just a doll. We LOVE her so much! Her giggles, her nonstop chattering (seriously, she is a talker!), and her adorable smiles just make our day. Come on, look at these faces – don’t you just wanna kiss her little chubby cheeks??
Theo is enthralled by her – always wants to hold her and play with her. And she just lights up when he’s around! Those two are gonna be close. (And me being such a bad mommy, I don’t have very many pictures of them together! Gonna have to work on that more…)
So in addition to taking care of two constantly on the go kids and getting ready for our big move at the end of July, I’ve also started a new Etsy business! (I know, I’m crazy) I am making printable cards for birthdays, weddings, showers, etc. So far, I’ve been doing custom orders for some of the mom’s in my mommy group on Facebook. I’m trying to take anything I make custom and post it in my store as well. This has not worked out super great yet – I only have one listing lol. But I’m excited about it – and hubby is excited for any extra money it brings in! So please feel free to check out my store – Paper Lilies by Alicia!
This weekend is already looking a little crazy. We’re having a garage sale Friday and Saturday and then hubby is graduating on Sunday! So yea, I’m really stretching myself thin trying to prep for all of this! And *gasp* I’m buying decorations from the party store for the grad party. I just don’t have time! Oh well. I’ll make it up to him in the future. His grad school graduating party will be over the top. I’m hoping to take lots of pictures on Sunday. It might be one of the last big family get together’s we have before the move. And hopefully we can get some family photos done too since everyone will be all dressed up!
We’ve got less than 3 months left until the big move. The garage sale is step one of getting ready. I’m in big time de-clutter mode! Whatever we don’t sell is getting donated. We’ve outgrown our 1100 sqft home so we definitely have too much stuff! I’ve sorted toys, baby clothes, kitchen items, movies, books, etc and we have some furniture items that are leaving as well. Once this phase is over it’ll be time to start packing non-essentials. I’ve always hated living out of boxes so I will definitely be happy when it comes time to unpack! Hubby and I just booked a hotel for a trip down to do some house hunting. We’re excited to find a place – it’ll definitely be big item off the check list! And hopefully we’ll have some time to check out the town while we’re down there. Pretty soon it’ll be “Texas here we come!!”
For those of you who do not know, my hubby is currently a student finishing his undergrad. After 4 years of active duty in the Navy, he decided to go back to school. He will be graduating with a BA in English in May. We are all so very proud of him and what he has accomplished! And now that he’s finishing his undergrad, the time has come to prepare for the next part of our journey. Grad school!
Hubby got accepted into his top school (one of the top Christian grad schools in the country) and is beyond thrilled! While we’ve talked about it and known it was a possibility, our future plans are now a lot more solidified: we are moving to Texas. That’s right, Texas. I can’t say it was ever on my radar for places I’d like to live but we’re both really excited about this opportunity and what the future holds for our family. A lot of thought and prayer went into the decisions we’ve made and are making and we’re ready for this new adventure.
Right now, everything is planning, planning, planning. I’ve spent quite a bit of time looking at school districts and housing. Trying to figure out where I’ll be applying for jobs. I joined a Facebook group for the area to find out more info from mom’s who live there. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love to plan! I’ve got an entire pinterest board dedicated to everything about our relocation. We still have 5 months or so before we’re going so plenty of time to figure things out.
The tough part about moving 13 hrs away is leaving family behind. But we are grateful for all of the love and support everyone has been giving us as we prepare. Grad school is such a big step for hubby and I know he’s excited and nervous about it. We’re so blessed to have so many encouraging people in our lives, who are sharing in our excitement! We’re going to miss everyone so much. Thank God for skype!
I’m a little nervous about the housing. No basements is a scary notion. The toy room is in our basement currently. It’s been great having a room where the kids can go play (well so far just Theo) and watch movies. Now we’re hoping for either a 2nd family room or large enough bedrooms so the bigger toy items can fit in their rooms. Obviously, there is going to be some downsizing. I am excited about the prospect of 2 bathrooms though. One is definitely not enough! And we’re hoping we can still find a place with an extra room for an office. But I have a feeling that we’ll be making some sacrifices in that area. I can’t wait until hubby is done with school and settled in a job and we can buy our own home. Ahh dreams…
So yea, exciting news for our family! Lots of changes ahead and we can’t wait!
I am in love with my daughter. These past few months have been amazing. She is so darn cute I can’t take it! And her smile is soo sweet 🙂 so I just had to share some of my favorite pictures – hard to capture because she is fascinated by the camera or my phone! (These are in no particular order – just a random collection)
I convinced hubby to get my a new DSLR camera for Mother’s Day forever ago. And I played around with it some. But now I’m happy to say its getting some real use!
First I used it to do newborn photos of Adeline. I think they turned out pretty well!
After that small success, I picked a nice afternoon and dragged the fam out to the park for more pictures. This went not so well. Adeline was not a happy camper – fussing pretty much the entire time. But I ended up with a few shots I really like.
All in all, a success! I hope to get lots of use out of this camera – and save our family lots of money on pictures! Now I just need to figure out the trick to getting the 6 year old to smile and the baby to stop crying!
I can’t believe my baby boy is 6 years old! Eck – where did the time go?!
To celebrate we threw him a totally sweet pirate party – complete with invitations to his friends at school! Being the spacey mom with a newborn, I totally forgot to take pictures of the invitations! I printed them off on tan paper and they were little treasure maps. We rolled them up and stuck them in bottles the get that message in a bottle feel! Perfect for a pirate party.
I put together this awesome loot chest, complete with pearls! Each bag has some gold coins, glow sticks, rubber bouncy balls, and eye patches for the kids. We set it up on the gift table.
I also made a totally awesome banner, which is partially showing in the above pic. It said “Happy Birthday Captain Theo” in a real piratey script. I bought the stripped paper at the craft store and cut it down to the size I wanted. Then printed the letters off on my computer. Lots of cutting a gluing later and ta da – pirate banner! See below pictures for the entire banner.
The kids came in their pirate garb and everyone got a sword at the gate. We set up a board so they could walk the plank and played pin the treasure chest on the map! I also applied pirate tattoos to any worthy swashbucklers! (Which was everyone) Their favorite part though was the pinata filled with candy.
It took quite a few hits and a little mom ripping but eventually the candy came out and they all ran for it! Like our broom set up? Lol – no where to hang a pinata at our house!
For food, we had cucumber and carrot “swords” and pigs in a blanket, or sea snails. I also made some seaweed dip (spinach) and we put out some grapes – or pirate jewels! And of course no party would be complete with out some goldfish!
The cake was pretty awesome. When I first picked it up that day it was falling apart by the time I got it home. Thankfully hubby had time to run it back to the bakery, where they had to re-make the entire thing and delivered it just in time! I got some great themed candles online and set them up all over and Theo made his wish!
After the cake was presents – he got plenty of new pirate legos! And some awesome rockets to shoot off with Daddy. It was all in all a great party – and a total success for being our first party with friends! And bonus – the costume doubled for Halloween!
Theo is officially a kindergartener! Oh man, he is getting so big! And of course he was sooo excited for his first day of school that he didn’t sleep great the night before – can you see the dark circles on his eyes? Silly kid.
I did the same questionaire with him again this year. Here are his adorable and crazy answers:
Favorite Color: still blue!
Favorite Food: Mac N Cheese
Favorite Activity: Playing with friends at recess
Favorite Movie: The Avengers
Favorite Book: Ant Man
Favorite Song: The ironman song
Favorite Candy: Bubblegum
What do you want to be when you grow up: An astronaut and Ironman
What are you most excited about this school year: Recess!
Ah what a goofy kid! This year should be interesting – he’ll be starting to learn to read! Guess its time to bust out his phonic books and early readers. It’s crazy having a kid in kindergarten and a newborn at the same time. I am definitely one tired momma!
Saturday evening I started having contractions. They were sporadic at best but fairly intense. We were scheduled for an induction on Monday but I was hoping to go naturally before then. Guess my prayers were being answered! We headed to the hospital around 8am on Sunday morning. It took awhile for the doctor and nurses to decide to admit me – I was stuck at only 3cm and not progressing but the contractions were no more than 4-5 mins apart and very intense so they knew I was in labor. Once things started moving though it all happened quickly and our baby girl was born at 3:51pm on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. We named her Adeline.
She weighs 7lbs 11oz (exactly 3 pounds more than her big brother) and was 20 1/2 inches long (2 inches longer than Theo). Labor was easy – thanks to the epidural. I went in not sure if I’d need one but once they broke my water I couldn’t stand the contractions any longer.
Hubby was there the whole time and did a great job of being supportive. He tried not to eat in front of me and I don’t remember yelling at him once. Pretty successful labor partner 😉 He even remembered to help me with breathing and would rub my lower back when I was having contractions.
Theo was so excited to meet his new baby sister. He wanted to hold and hug her and kiss her. He just adores having her. I know that might change in a few years when she starts crawling and getting into his stuff so I’m going to just enjoy it for now.
We didn’t have too many hospital visitors – something we strongly wanted to avoid. Just our parents and a few siblings. Everyone was oooing and awwing over the baby. She really is so cute. She has the biggest eyes and such long lashes! I make pretty cute kids 😉
We’re so happy about this newest addition to our family. Cannot wait to see her grow and change in the next few years and develop her own little personality!
